Keyword weighting
Keyword weighting is part of keyword phrases out of overall number of words on the page. Keyword weighting is also known as keyword density (KD). While writing content you should consider about KD, it is an important concept of content writing. Keyword weighting is depending on calculation means if a web page contains 600 words and out of which your site contains 20 words as your primary keyword phrases. Its means your web page have 5 % of keyword density.
Caution: -
- Increasing KD means you are making the human mind tire. Your client cannot digest your repeating keywords and leave your site and never turn on it again. Side by side if you increase your keyword weight to more than 50% your web page will be considered as a keyword stuffing.
- Search engine may decide that particular keyword phrase is only used for grabbing the attention and consider ignoring that page.
- On the other side if your keywords are too low search engine will not observe your pages. The right way is to select the middle way nor too much keyword stuffing, nor low keyword density in the content.
Although Google doesn’t seem perfect density value, main thing is not to spam your content.
Views of professional on Keyword density
Keyword density is the hot topic between SEO profession and also creating some confusion on this topic. In my knowledge keyword density is being detached from content writing as it is discussed in Dr. E. Garcia ( Mi Islita.com ) Article. Keyword weight or density is based on mathematical formula.
Term Vector Theory and Keyword Weights
Equation 1: Term Weight = wi = tfi * log (D / dfi)
Where
- tfi = term frequency (term counts) or number of times a term i occurs in a document.
- dfi = document frequency or number of documents containing term i
- D = number of documents in the database.
From this equation I initiate that dfi is inversely propositional to wi (keyword weight) and tfi is directly propositional to wi. So with the increases of dfi, wi decreases and when we increases tfi, wi increases.
From Equation – 1 We can recognize that phrases which emerge in too many documents receive a low weight, while unusual terms which rare to find and emerge in only some documents receive a high weight.
My view regarding Equation – 1 it is good for avoiding keyword spamming which is an unethical practice but its makes competition baseless on Internet. Search Engine Optimizers works for promoting keywords and keywords are based on business services. In contemporary business world is full of competition and everybody wants to promote there business. Thus Keyword are necessary if they are used in proper readable manner.
Example: - Suppose 1 lakhs people have Mortgage business and 30% of People Y are running websites and 60% of People Y are promoting there business and this will be certain if they use same service name in form of keywords. This will raise Keyword weight and competition for business services.
Keyword density of a document
Equation 2: Keyword Density = KDi = tfi/Li
Thus, the keyword density of a 400-word document with recur the phrase "Mortgage" 4 times is KD = 4/400 means 1% percent of density. Note that this value does not account for contextually (relative position) and distribution (relative dispersion) of terms in the document. These elements affect document relevancy and topic semantics.
